Hypnotist Robert Temple Sentenced to Eight Months in Prison
Bet He is Red Raw Now!
Hypnotist Robert Temple hacked into victims’ social media accounts and downloaded naked photos to sell online…
Robert Temple, a 36-year-old comedy hypnotist from Bishop Auckland, County Durham, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for a series of cybercrimes involving the theft and sale of intimate images of women. The sentencing took place at Teesside Crown Court in March 2024, following Temple’s admission to multiple charges, including hacking, fraud, and converting criminal property.
Exploitation Through Deception
Temple’s criminal activities came to light after an investigation initiated by Action Fraud in 2021. He had infiltrated the Snapchat accounts of two women, downloading private images, including nude photographs, which he then sold online in exchange for cryptocurrency. To facilitate these transactions and obscure his identity, Temple set up cryptocurrency accounts using the personal details of one of his victims without her knowledge.
One victim, Ellie Norman, an IT support worker from Lincolnshire, recounted how Temple approached her on social media, posing as a woman offering modeling opportunities. Unbeknownst to her, Temple used this ruse to gain access to her private photos and subsequently created fake social media profiles in her name, including on Snapchat, Instagram, and Tinder.
Legal and Public Repercussions
Annette Thomas, senior crown prosecutor at CPS East Midlands, condemned Temple’s actions, stating: “Using insidious tactics, he exploited these unsuspecting women by hacking into their social media accounts and sharing intimate images of them online, without their knowledge, all for financial greed.”
At the time of his arrest, Temple was on tour with his show “Red Raw,” which had garnered attention for overturning a decades-old ban on public hypnotism performances in Bolton. The ban, dating back to 1982, was lifted after Temple challenged it, allowing him to perform his act legally in the area.
Following his conviction, several venues canceled upcoming performances of “Red Raw,” citing “unforeseen circumstances.”
Broader Implications
Temple’s case highlights the potential for individuals to exploit digital platforms and social engineering tactics to commit crimes. Authorities have urged the public to employ strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication to protect against such cyber threats.
As of May 2025, Robert Temple remains incarcerated, serving his sentence for the cybercrimes that have not only tarnished his career but also caused significant distress to his victims.
